Mission:
Prelude: The Gathering
Location: USS Proxima: Transporter Room 1
Timeline: Mission Day 1 at 1730
[FEDERATION STARSHIP PROXIMA]
[TRANSPORTER ROOM]
[DAY ONE: 1730 HOURS]
Curh materialized on the transporter pad as his eyes adjusted to the change in interior. His antenna perked slightly as he took in the surroundings of his new ship. While most starship transporter rooms had a familiar layout, there were sudtle differences that the trained eye could pick out. "New" was the appropriate descriptive word for this space. He stepped off the pad before facing the transporter chief.
"Permission to come aboard," Curh said plainly as the chief stood behind his console.
"Granted, sir," the transporter chief replied and offered a smile to the new officer. He recognized the insignia of a Lieutenant Commander, and the orange of his tab and white stripe indicated he was a command level officer.
"Your time for rematerialize was slow," Curh responded as he looked the man over. "My apologies, sir. We are still fleshing out the ship systems," the chief offered in response.
Curh gave the man an upraised eyebrow as his antenna reacted to the excuse. "We will fix that today then," he said before continuing, "Where is the Commanding officer?"
"On the bridge, sir," the chief said sheepishly. Curh nodded and strode from the room without another word. He passed by various crewman in the passageway as he found the nearest turbolift. Stepping inside, he pressed the appropriate buttons for the main bridge and waited as he felt the turbolift move. Internally, Curh was thrilled that his post was on a new ship, and a Constitution class at that.
When the turbolift halted, he stepped out onto the main bridge and into the hustle and bustle that was a starship in spacedock. Spying who he assumed was the commanding officer seated in the center chair, he approached and faced the man at attention.
"Lieutenant Commander Thyvn reporting aboard, sir," he said smartly before presenting the PADD he held with his orders.
Marcus, tapping away on one of his armrest consoles, looked up as the Andorian stepped into view. "Ah, Commander Thyvn, excellent," he started taking the proffered PADD, "We've had some concerns with our impulse injectors. Commander Rhowin will undoubtedly appreciate your arrival, so she might focus on her other responsibilities." Tapping the PADD a few times, he offered it back to the Chief Engineer and levered himself from the chair, "Everything seems to be in order, Commander. Any difficulties in your travels?"
"No sir, The trip out was fairly uneventful," he replied stepping aside as the captain stood from his chair. Curh placced the PADD under his arm as he did so. "My orders stated the Proxima is fresh out of spacedock. I'm looking foreward to serving aboard this ship, she is my first Constitution class," he said.
"Indeed, with the new Computer Systems and layout," Bowers remarked regarding the Proxima. He stepped up and out of the command area, assuming the engineer would follow, "It's also my first time serving aboard a Constitution-class vessel, and certainly palatial compared to my last posting on the Hyacinth. A Perimeter Action ship, she had none of the comforts of home."
Curh followed behind the captain as they walked. "Yes sir. The Shiloh was an Akula class, but she was of an older vintage," he said understanding the captain's position, "I read the new manuals about this Library computer system layout. I was intrigued by the simplicity of it. Is it safe to say we are one of the first ships to have it integrated into our systems fully?"
"The first Constitution-class vessel, yes," remarked Marcus as he paused his trek to lean against the support column in the turbo lift alcove, "The Constellation was first. Unfortunately, it has not helped to resolve the class' performance and reliability issues." Marcus shrugged, recalling how he'd been late to Vulcan because of those problems, "Anyway, they are calling it LCARS. It doesn't exactly roll off the tongue if you ask me."
Bowers nodded to the Andorian, pushing himself off the column, "Well, Commander, I expect my meeting with Admiral Rutherford tomorrow will confirm a departure date four days from now. I'll need those impulse injector issues resolved by then, understood?"
"Aye aye, sir," Curh said with a curt nod. "I'll be sure we are fit for departure on schedule. With your permission sir, I'd like to get down to Engineering and see what we've got," he said and waited to be dismissed by his new captain.
"Very good, Commander, off you go," Bowers nodded to the Engineer and made for his chair. The reports refused to read themselves.
Curh came to attention smartly before speaking, "Yes sir." He then turned and stepped into the turbolift as the doors opened. When they were closed, he relaxed slightly as his antenna came down from their rigid stance. He pressed the appropriate buttons on the panel and he felt the lift begin to move. His first impressions were that Captain Bowers seemed very capable. Curh only hoped he'd made a good first impression aswell.
