[USS Proxima]
[Main Bridge]
[1800 hours]
After her meeting with Commander Rhowin, Eve had gone back to her quarters for a bit to ensure that her belongings had made it to her quarters safely. This was primarily because of the intruder alert, but it was also always to be better safe than sorry. After she had done that, she made her way up to the Main Bridge. It was later in the day so she wouldn't spend long there, but she wanted to start getting acquainted with the helm. The last time she flew a Starship was the Yokohama, but that was five years ago and she wanted to get back into things before the launch so she could fly at her best when the Proxima would eventually depart. After a few moments the turbolift doors slid open and Eve stepped out and gazed around the bridge. A Constitution class bridge was always a remarkable sight even with the new Excelsior class ships coming into the picture.
Lieutenant Commander Dusan still hadn't been given their accommodations onboard the Proxima. They were still waiting to hear back from the Chief Stewart following their meeting with Commander Rhowin. They had explored the ship. They had done a terrific job with refitting the Constitution-class. They had successfully modernized the class for service for at least another fifty years but knew within at least half of that time the ship would need to be updated with new technology or even replaced. The new Excelsior-class could be the new ship of the line.
They had checked out the Observation Lounge, Crew's and Officer's Mess and the Navigation Centres throughout the ship including Stellar Cartography and Navigation. Dusan knew that they would fit in here but they were also concerned about being reconnected with Captain Bowers. The two of them had served together earlier on in their careers on the Jean de Vienne. They were both young and Dusan hadn't been out yet. They were still learning of who they were.
While the ship was operating on minimal power they decided to check out the bridge. They looked over their shoulder as the door from the Turbolift swooshed open and an officer with Lieutenant insignia and the Operations flap entered onto the Bridge, "Greetings Lieutenant." They turned around to face them. They were still in the skant uniform they were donning earlier and they approached her, "I'm the Chief Navigator, Commander Dusan."
Eve turned her attention to the Commander, extended her hand, and smiled. "Commander Dusan. I'm Lieutenant Eve West, the Proxima's new Chief Helm Officer."
"Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Lieutenant." They took her hand into theirs, "I look forward to working closely with you in the best seats on the 'ship." Dusan gestured their other hand to their seats upfront, "What are you're preferred pronouns?"
After she shook their hand she released and smiled. "So do I Commander. As for my pronouns they are she/her."
Dusan nodded their head, "On duty, I prefer they/them but off duty it all depends on my presentation if I'm femme or masc. Where were you posted before the Proxima?"
Eve noted Commander Dusan's response in her head and began to reply to their question. "I was actually posted to Starfleet Academy as a Flight Control Instructor" she nodded.
"Interesting," Dusan continued, "Have you served as a department head prior to your posting at the Academy?"
"I have actually" the pilot began. "The USS Yokohama. I served there for five years right out of the Academy. At first I was a relief helmsman before I was promoted to the Chief Helm Officer position. After that I transferred to teach at the Academy."
Dusan nodded their head, they would have offered her a mentorship if she was new to the position, "Terrific. Well, I'll let you get acquainted with the Proxima. I am planning to get a few of the ladies together for a ladies night. Would that be of any interest to you?"
"That would be something that I'm up for" Eve smiled. "What time were you thinking?"
"I've got to hammer out the details but I'm thinking for at least a day for all of us to be settled. Tomorrow evening at approximately 2000 most likely on the station. I'll pass along the invitation along. Feel free to invite anyone if I somehow miss someone." They grinned warmly at Eve, "And on that part, I'm sure I'll meet with you soon. If you're up for grabbing a bite to eat for dinner, let me know otherwise my schedule is pretty much unspoken for."
Dusan nodded their head and walked towards the Turbolift.
Eve watched Dusan leave the bridge. They had gone out of their way to organize an event for people they barely knew. Qualities like that were more common than previous centuries, but still rare. Eve herself could never organize an event for people she didn't really know. But to be fair, Eve wasn't the social type anyway. But she had a feeling that Dusan and her would get along just fine.
